Durgotsob 2025

Durga Puja (Durgotsob/Durgutsob) is one of the grandest Hindu festivals, especially celebrated in West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bangladesh. It honors Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. In melbourne Since 2004, we have been celebrating for 22 years as a major cultural event in the night. BACV cultural team has organized this great event over the years, with around 2-3 K people visits this event in the southeast.

Cultural Events & Highlights:
- Mondo Preparation:
Skilled artisans make the Mondop and decoration of Goddess Durga and her children, which are beautifully decorated and worshipped. - Pandal Hopping:
Temporary, artistic structures called pandals are set up, often with unique themes ranging from traditional temples to modern art installations. - Rituals & Worship:
- Mahalaya marks the beginning, invoking the goddess.
- Daily rituals include Pushpanjali (flower offerings), Sandhi Puja, and Sindoor Khela (married women applying vermilion).
- Cultural Programs:
- Dance, drama, and music performances inspired by mythology and folk traditions.
- Recitation of poems, plays, and storytelling sessions.
- Food & Feasts:
Community feasts (bhog) are served, usually including khichuri, labra, chutney, and sweets. Street food stalls also become a huge attraction. - Processions & Immersion:
On the last day (Vijaya Dashami), idols are taken in grand processions with music and dance before immersion in rivers or lakes, symbolizing the goddess’s return to her heavenly abode.
