Durgotsob/ Spring Festival

September 24 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Durga Puja (Durgotsob/Durgutsob) is one of the grandest Hindu festivals, especially celebrated in West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bangladesh. It honors Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Cultural Events & Highlights:
  1. Mondop preparation:
Skilled artisans craft the mondop of Goddess Durga and her children, which is beautifully decorated and worshipped.
  2. Pandal Hopping:
Temporary, artistic structures called pandals are set up, often with unique themes ranging from traditional temples to modern art installations.
  3. Rituals & Worship:
    • Mahalaya marks the beginning, invoking the goddess.
    • Daily rituals include Pushpanjali (flower offerings), Sandhi Puja, and Sindoor Khela (married women applying vermilion).
  4. Cultural Programs:
    • Dance, drama, and music performances inspired by mythology and folk traditions.
    • Recitation of poems, plays, and storytelling sessions.
  5. Food & Feasts:
Community feasts (bhog) are served, usually including khichuri, labra, chutney, and sweets. Street food stalls also become a huge attraction.
  6. Processions & Immersion:
On the last day (Vijaya Dashami), idols are taken in grand processions with music and dance before immersion in rivers or lakes, symbolizing the goddess’s return to her heavenly abode.

✨ In short, Durgotsob is not just a religious festival but also a cultural extravaganza, blending devotion, art, music, dance, food, and community bonding.
